YOUNG OFFICERS.
NEW ZEALANDERS AT DUNTROON In Thursday’s cable messages reference was made to the excellent work of young officers from tho Duntroon Military College, in New South Wales. It is to this college that a number of young New Zealanders have for some years been sent, in furtherance of Earl Kitchener’s scheme of training. There are many young officers just under tho ago for service, and AJistcr Sutherland, of Manaia, is a second year student at tho college. Writing to his father. Major Sutherland, of Manaia, lie says that some time since a cable was received from Earl Kitchener enquiring how many officers could bo sent The Governor-General paid a visit of inspection to tho college* and after consultation with tho authorities decided that all who wero of tho required ago and had had two years’ training or over should bo sent. Formerly only thoso who had completed the four years’ training wore eligible to serve. Now practically all third and fourth year students havo been sent, and wore to go direct to”tho front. Practically only first and second year students are now left at tho college.—Hawera Star.
