BRITISH GAIN TRENCHES IN BELGIUM.
RUSSIANS STILL CLAIM SDCCESSES.
Ben Tillett’s remarks after his visit to the fighting- lino show that he has grasped the true position. The difficulty that has arisen in Britain is not due to. the labour leaders, who are intelligent enough, but to the fact that the men refuse in many cases to follow the advice of their leaders. The position now seems clearing' up, and if, as promised, the profits of the employers are limited, the men will do their part. In Belgium the British have gained a few yards, and the French report progress. It is probable that the British are up against the strongest portion of the Crerman line. .They have blocked the road to Calais, and the Gormans have retorted by using every device to block the road to Berlin for the British troops. The Daily Mail is now advocating an unlimited supply of machine-guns. They are certainly a necessity, but the War Office knows this as well or better than the Daily Mail. From the Italian and Eussian fronts and the Dardanelles there is no news of developments. The Russians are winning victories everywhere, and retiring.
