THE BELGIAN FUND.

Some little misapprehension appears to exist on the subject of tho Belgian Belief Fund and tho Government subsidy thereon. Let us explain, therefore, once more that the Government has decided to make n straight-out grant of £.5000 a month and in addition to subsidise donations £1 for £1 up to tho amount of £SOOO a month, thus assuring a regular monthly contribution from tho Dominion of at least £15.000 (tho Government £IO.OOO and the public £SOOOI. The subsidy has been allocated to the various provincial districts on a population basis, and Taranaki’s contributions will be subsidised up to the amount of £259 monthly. M hen tho Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs was in Xew Plymouth about a fortnight ago it was arranged with him that all moneys forwarded to hint through the medium of thy Taranaki Herald and Budget Belgian Belief Fund shall count for the subsidy equally with the. money .sent through other channels and., from other parts of Taranaki. Therefore them is nothing to be gained by sending money direct to tho Government: whatever passes through our hands will earn the subsidy just as surely. Here also may wo once again state that there are no expenses deducted from money sent through us. Every peimy we receive is passed on. and the Bank of Xew Zealand remit the money free of exchange. Wo shall continue also to do the advertising and printing for entertainments, etc., organised in town or country for our fund free of all charge, as we have done over since we opened the fund about seven or eight months ago. Up to the present wo have succeeded in collecting about £3203. Until recently it was remitted to tho Belgian Consul in Wellington, but now, with his approval and in order that the monev may count [or the Government subsidy, it is remitted to tho Under-Secretary for Interna! Affairs.
