LIEUT. FRATER. ** The late Lieut. Frater was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, and for some time held a position ir the Auckland office of the. Union Steam Ship Company. Later he entered the office of Messrs. Frater Bros., sharebrokers, in which firm his father is a partner. He was a prominent member of the Eden and Epsom Tennis Club, a member of the Auckland Golf Club, and as a yachtsman was a member of the crew of the Ngnlira when that yacht was owned by his brothers. An enthusiastic volunteer, Lieutenant V rater was a member of the Auckland Highland Riffes. After war was declared he enlisted, ami was made a sergeant in the machine-gun section ot the 3rd (Auckland) Regiment. In Egypt he received promotion, and was recently gazetted a lieutenant. CAPTAIN A. E. MACDONALD. Captain MacDonald—who. it is believed, belonged originally to the Maiuku district—has resided at Frnnkton for some lime. Ro joined the 16th (Waikato) Regiment ns a subaltern on its formation after the introduction of the present defence system, and was in charge of the Ngarnawahia Company. He received his captaincy shortly before the war broke out. During the mobili--siiion of the loth Regiment he was in charge of those who concentrated at Hamilton. He left New Zealand with the main expeditionary force. He was a traveller for Messrs. Ellis and Burnand, sawmillevs. for some. time. His wife and several young children live at Frankton. MAJOR IV. W. ALDERMAN. Major W. W. Alderman was appointed to the command of the 16th (Waikato) Company after tho arrival of the troops in Egypt, Major G. J. Rastrick, formerly in command, having been invalided* Major Alderman is well known to alt Territorials throughout the Auckland district. He onmo to New Zealand from the Commonwealth military forces, under the arrangement which permits of an exchange of officers among the Overseas Dominions. Ho war. infantry instructor in AucKhiud, and brigade-major to the Auckland Infantry Brigade. He was highly esteemed for his sterling personal qualities and his notable efficiency as an officer, He was commandant* of the training ramp at Epsom during the training of tho Auckland section of th? expeditionary force, and h*U Now Zealand with a post on the general staff.
