A FINE EXPLOIT. CAPETOWN, May 2. Official.—Colonel Mad cenzie's flying column by a brilliant feat pushed 120 miles from Bethany over most difficult arid country with scarcely any transport facilities. They surprised the enemy entraining at Gideon .station. A small party destroyed the line north ofGideon and captured the whole train and a quantity of live stock. The 9th Brigade heavily engaged the enemy at night, but withdrew after heavy casualties, including 70 prisoners. Two brigades attacked at dawn, dispersed and pursued the enemy, 800 strong, twenty miles. They recovered all the prisoners, and captured several guns, Maxims; 200 prisoners and, but for the difficult rock ground, they would have surrounded the enemy. Three Union officers and twenty men were killed; eight officers and forty-five men were wounded.
