(By “ All-Square.”) Bain is very imicli wanted to help tho work on the new greens on tho Hawera course, which, if there should be,a few soaking downpours, will be in paying condition pretty soon. The groundman and his temporary assistants are putting in a lot of good work and getting the new part of tho course rapidly towards playing order. Tho addition of tho extra holes should vastly increase tho interest of members.—Star.

The second round of match play handicap was played at Middlemore on Saturday afternoon last (says the N.Z. Herald). Much interest was taken in the meeting of W. S. Ralph and W. B. Colbeck, and also J. C. Burns and E. Hickson. In the first match the golf was good all round, and, but for Colbeck’s erratic putting at times, would have been much closer. Ralph went round in 82, and, being in receipt of four strokes, C'olbeck’s few lapses enabled Ralph to win at the sixteenth hole. Burns easily established a lead over Hickson, and. despite good play on the loser’s part, he never quite managed to get control, and Burns settled matters at tho seventeenth hole. Sharland played good golf in this match against Macintosh, and, until the match ended at the twelfth hole, looked like beating 80 easily. He wasted a : few shots at the last two or three holes, and finished in 82, including a seven at the ninth hole. The Royal Melbourne members re-' eently subscribed for a motor ambulance for the front. A sum of £G4O was raised. After deducting the cost of the ambulance (£508), a balance of £132 remained in hand. This sum has been handed over to the British Rod Cross Society.
