SETTLERS 5 MEAT FREEZING WORKS.

MEETING AT OMATA. A meeting of. settlers in the Omata district was held at the hail on Tuesday evening, to discuss the proposal m establish co-operative meat freezing works for North Taranaki. Mr. E. U. Bayly was voted to the chair. Apologies were received for the absence of .Messrs. H. Okcy, M.P., and Newton King.

He urged those who canvassed for shares not to be halfhearted. An energetic canvass should result in IOTi to IoOD shares being taken up between Raholu ami Omata. He outlined the terms of subscription, which meant that UJ per share had to be paid up over a period of eighteen months. Ho thought that a minimum holding oi fi\e shares should be fixed.

Mr. Uoneyfield said he had canvassed his district during the last day or two and had received applications for about 2UO .shares.

Mr. D. ,1. Hughes asked if dry shareholders would receive a fair percentage for their money. Shareholders who supplied the works would get their bcnelits directly, and it was only right that those who did nut supply should a t least get interest, oven if it was a little under current rates.

Mr. Shaw stated that though the matter hail not been settled, he certainly considered that, dry shareholders should he onnmragcd. tie enumerated several successful companies that included dry shareholders among their number. After further discussion as to the proposed site, preference to shareholders pro rata, and the cifert the proposed works would have on bringing Hume boats to New Plymouth, it was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Air. S. Vickers: "That this meeting supports tho proposal to the best of its ability, and that those present will take as many shares as they van manage.'’ Highly shares were then taken up in the room, and the delegates appointed (Alessis, I). Penwarden and K. U, Bayly) will make a vigorous canvass of the district. Votes of thanks to Mr. S. AV. Shaw and the chairman terminated the meeting.
