The Blue Book on the rebellion in South Africa states that there is ample reason for believing that De Wet and Beyers interpreted the Government's inaction after Do Wet refused to confer with Steyn as a sign of weakness. They believed the Government was afraid, but its inaction was due to anxiety to avoid bloodshed. Do Wet’s disingenuousuess was particularly glaring, not only did he mislead Steyn hut sie"misled Ids own officers. He alone of all the rebel officers appears .to have wanted war. GERMAN ATTACK REPELLED (Received April 28, 10.35 a.m.) CAPETOWN, April 27. . Official.:—Skinner’s force, guarding the railhead at Trokkppjos, .50 miles north-east of Swakopnnmd, repulsed, after four hours’ fighting. 700 Gormans with twelve guns. The enemy lost 25 killed and wounded.
