PBOU OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Oct. 14.—Tho bachelor’s ball on the oth mst. was in every way a groat success, and the accommodation of tho hall, which for tho occasion was by tasteful decoration transformed into a beautiful ballroom, was taxed to its utmost. Though tho floor in some of tho dancos was rather crowded, a most enjoyable evening was spent by all, and tho guests wore loud in their praisa of the splendid arrangements, music (Mr. A. Matthews’ orchestra), floor and supper being superlative. Tho bachelors’ committee, consisting of Messrs. G, Ackland, .1. Rocho (lion, sec.), L. Smith, O, Huckor, E. James, R. James, F. Smith, Swatsfeager, Chapman, and T. Shrider, were assisted by a ladies' committee of the Misses Davidson, H. Smith, Fahish (2), Hogan, Laurence, Summers and Langinan, and Mosdames Knowles, M. Jones, Spray and James rendered valuable assistance in the supper room. Mr. G. Ackland was untiring as M.C., .and tho bachelors in the district sro feeling downhearted at tho persistent rumour that ho is contemplating desertion from their ranks. Tho credit balance of £3 7s 4d was donated by tho committee to tbo Tariki Patriotic Relief Fund. I am informed by a director of the Tariki Dairy Factory that there is a steady increase in the local demand for Tariki cheese. Retailors say that once thoir customers have sampled tho brand they will not buy any other. No wonder I Tho hon. sec. of the Patriotic Committee (Mr. E. Crossman) teds mo th-v the British Poor and Belgian Relief Fund is me anting up, but not so quickly as ho would wish. No doubt tho terrible accounts of tho sufferings of the brave Belgians that have appeared lately will r-nso those who have not yet contributed, and that the fund will quickly mount to a sum worthy of tho place. Tho committee will meet on the night of the 17th inst.
