QUEEN OF THE CARNIVAL. 1 TARANAKI HERALD PREFERENTIAL VOTING CONTEST. FIRST PRIZE £3 3s. SECOND PRIZE £2 2s. Five guineas’ worth for one penny. And the penny goes to advancing music in your town. Nine candidates have entered for the Queen of the Carnival election. Of these only seven can be elected—one as Queen and six as Ladies-in-waiting. In the actual election, however, you can only vote for one candidate, viz., for the lady you choose as Queen. All nine candidates are more or less known to the public. In the Herald Contest you must vote for seven of the candidates in your order of preference. The result will prove how far your judgment is in accord with the verdict of the majority. The prizes will be awarded to the competitors whose voting lists most nearly coincide with the order in which the candidates are ultimately placed. In the event of a tie the prize will go to the competitor whoso winning list was sent in first. Remember, Ihe prizes for the persons sending in the nearest correct lists will be— FIRST PRIZE £3 3s. SECOND PRIZE £2 2s. Whst yoi! Stave to do.—Ton carefully look over the list of candidates; select the one you think should be Queen, and write the Figure 1 opposite her name. Then pick out the candidate yon would have as Queen if your first choice failed, and after her name write the Figure 2. Proceed in this way right through the list until you have placed seven candidates in your order of preference from 1 to 7. Cut out the list, enclose in an envelope, togelher with a penny (coin or stamp), address if “Preferential Voting Contest, ” and send it direct to the Herald Office, Conditions.—Every list must be made out on the form, published in each day's Herald. The date printed on the form, which will be altered from day to day, will be regarded as the date of entry, and must be followed by a record of the exact time at which the list was completed by the competitor. Competitors may revise their judgment as often as they wish. Country competitors may save their coupons, enclosing' sufficient stamps (do not stick them). Coins must not be posted unless registered. It is a condition of entry that the decision of the Editor, which will be endorsed by official representatives'of the Band Carnival, shall be accepted as final. The whole of the proceeds from the fees goes to the Citizens’’Band Committee. You may send in as many returns as you like. Always enclose one penny for each list.
