ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
THE GISBORNE WHARF FATALITY PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, Jan. 12. At the inquest concerning the death of Rupert William Cole, who was killed whilst working on the steamer Ripple, a verdict was returned that deceased met his death through being struck on the head with railway iron while following his usual occupation. The jury found that the lights were insufficient, and added a rider that more care should be taken by officers in charge of vessels before discharging cargo at night. The jury found that skids were not put down in a proper manner to handle such dangerous cargo with safety, and thought that bad sufficient lights been available the accident might not have happened, A CHILD DROWNED. AUCKLAND, Jan. 12. The three-year-old son of Arthur Garfield was ‘drowned in a tidal river at Mahoe, Kawhia.
