FIRE IN MELBOURNE.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE CAUSED. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT; (Received Jan. 12, 9.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan.' 12. Another estimate puts the fire damage at 11100,000. Besides the Coliseum, which covered an area of 100 ft. by 300 ft., the Town Hall, three shops, ana a dwelling were burned or destroyed by falling debris. The brigade’s splendid efforts prevented ' a disastrous spread. Several firemen had narrow escapes from falling walls. Three collapsed in the fierce heat. Three hundred employees are thrown out of employment. Mr. Dunlop, the tennisplayer, one of the proprietors of the Coliseum, had completed his plans to depart for Endaud on Tuesday to plav in the Davis Cup. His departure will probably be delayed.
