In the Prussian Diet, Herr von Beth-mann-Hollweg declared that great satl_ isfaction had been caused' him by the way the Prussians took it to heart when tho honour of the army was touched. Herr Mandcl, Undcr-Secretary of State for tho Interior, replying to a question in the Alsace-Lorraine Diet, admitted that while the court-martial was sitting a squadron of Hussars was in readiness to act as tho civil authorities requested, but tho Government I hoped the sound commonsense of the | population would render it unnecessary. THE OFFICERS ACQUITTED. ,1 BERLIN. Jan. 11. v i Colonel von Reuter and Lieut Sc had ~ i were acquitted. s 1 Von Reuter was acquitted on tho , ' ground that he was justified in prni ■ tooting an officer's honour, the police - having failed in their duty, arid von p Reuter having cause to tear disorders • and bloodshed. The court-martial quashed von Koerstncr’s sentence on tho ground • that ho had cause to fear that Blank was about to attack him with a knife. ENGLISH PRESS COMMENT. Some quote the i Kaiser's threat to smash Alsace and ■ Lorraine to atoms, and declare that the court-martial lias now saved him that trouble, but, they add, tho Zahern j affair is not ended yet.
