The Governor will leave Wellington, for Nelson next Friday. ' ~ Mr. E. Snowball left Auckland for Sydney on Monday. He expects to ba absent for about three months. ;;

A Sydney cablegram reports that Mil. Salto, Japanese Consul-General in Australasia, who is at present visiting Japan, has resigned. . -- At Monday’s meeting of the Tourist League, Mr. T. C. List was unanimously re-elected chairman of the committee for tho ensuing year.

A Budapest message reports the death of Professor Vambery at the ago of 81. M. Vambery was professor of Oriental languages at the Budapest University and published many books and articles on the Eastern question. He was a strenuous advocate of Britain as opposed to Russia throughout the East.

Before a meeting of the Executive Council in Wellington on hlonday, the Governor held an investiture and presented Sir. Henry Otterson/clerk of the House of Representatives, with the insignia of the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, and Mr. G. F. Andrews, secretary to the Cabinet and clerk to tho Executive Council, with the insignia of the Companion of the Imperial Service Order.
