THE RUGBY -GAME. NEW ZEALAND BEATS AUSTRALIA PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEbIN, Sept. 13. New Zealand and Australia /net hero in tho second test match to-day. in the ; presence ot closo on 15.000 spectators. The match was played on the Carisbrook ground, which was just a trifle heavy. Though the morning was fine, the afternoon broke cold and dull overhead, tho cold increasing in intensity as tho afternoon wore on. . Though tho play could hardly bo said to have •reached what might lie called an international standard, it_ was, throughout, fast and exciting. Until New Zealand established its lead-in the second spell, tho issue looked like an open one. In the early stages the Australian backs showed up to much better advantage than tho All Blacks, who, apparently, lacked combination and failed to “warm up" until the game had. been in progress tor some time. Tho visiting hacks indulged in nippy passing, and ran to the lino, where Now Zealand was awarded a free-kitk for handling tho hall in tho scrum, and from a scrum inside halfway Wood sent tho ball out cleanly to his hacks, hut Taylor smothered Tasker’s pass. Australia were penalised for offside play and New Zealand found the line at half-way. The visitors so far wore having the best of the play. Macky missed.his kick, and one ol the Australian forwards, securing possession, (lung wido to Tasker, who out in very nicely ; hut Jones was tackled with tho hall, and M’Neeco and Wilson rushed play to Australia's quarters. The visiting pack wove playing with fine dash, and rushed play back into tho New Zealand twenty-five, but a mark again relieved. Play returned to Australian territory, but tho visiting forwards, playing with great dash, returned to the attack at the instance of Suttor, who gained a good deal of ground with a long kick.
