MOTOR-CYCLE RACING.

A FASCINATING SPORT. Motor-car and motor-cycle races are perhaps the most fascinating sports that could be wished for, and tho 500 odd people who assembled at tho Racecourse on Saturday to see the motorcycle races went away with a feeling or wonder and whirling < bewilderment, induced by, the fascinating races they had seen. The results of the ‘thirtymile road race and the five-mile motorcycle race appeared in Saturday’s Herald, and the following is a description of tho TEN MILE RACE. - The ten-mile motor-cycle race provided somo exciting thrills, and the spectators -showed great interest in thp event, Tho starters were ?A1 Anderson (Triumph), Boucher (Rudge), R. J. - Jones (Rudge), and F. Goldsmith (Royal Ruby), 55 secs, p P. Coleman (Douglas), 70 secs.; W. Chong (Douglas), 80 secs. Coloman jumped away from the start, and gained 17 secs, on in tho first lap, Emery, Anderson and Boucher following in that order. The cyclists were now buzzing round the corners in great style, somo rather recklessly. Passing the judge’s box. the second time, Coleman led by 220 yards from Chong, Emery, Anderson and Boucher coming next at intervals of 200 yards ,or so. In tho third 'round Emery and Chong were well settled, and Goldsmith pulled out. Coleman further increased his lead, and then Anderson, followed by; Boucher, set off in pursuit. , The fourth time round saw the Palmerston North hoy rattling a. great pace out o£ his machine, and the race resolved itself into a'struggle between Coleman, Anderson and Boucher. Coleman was .sti]l ahead the fifth time past, Anderson 15 yards in front'of Boucher. Boucher closed up on Anderson, and the pair had a neck and neck race, Boucher leading by 15 yards tho seventh time past. The eighth round saw Coleman still well in front, Boucher 20 yards ahead of Anderson. Excitement was now at fever heat, tho positions being Coleman 76 yards in front of Boucher, Anderson a similar distance behind him. Boucher and Anderson cracked on all speed, and Coleman was unable to maintain the pace. Boucher swept past him into first place, tho Palmerston lad coming second and Anderson third. The winner’s time for the ten laps, close on 10 miles, was 12mins. 6secs.
