LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 12. A man named Banks, a carrier, driving a lorry with a team of horses over a; level crossing at Rangiora, failed to seo an approaching train. Tho lorry was struck amidships and Banks was killed. Mrs. Humphreys, the crossingkeeper, and her son, nine years of ago, were both badly injured in the smash. The engine cut tho lorry in two, and tli© horses escaped with tho forecarriage. FOUND DROWNED. WANGANUI, September 13. At the inquest on tho body of tho old niau, William Osborne, 75 years of ago, which was found in tho river-yes-terday, the coroner returned a verdict of found drowned, thero being no evidence to show whether tho death was accidental or premeditated. A LIFT ACCIDENT. ‘ WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. W. H. Shift, a salesman in the carpet department of Kirkcaldie and Stains, sustained serious injury m tho firm’s warehouse this morning. Ho was looking down the goods lift well with his head over tho grill, speaking to a storeman on tho floor below, when tho lift came down from tho upper floor and struct the back of his skull. He was removed to the hospital in a critical condition.
