AUSTRALIAN NAVY.
VIGOROUSLY DEFENDED. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. —COPYRIGHT. (Received Sept. 12, 9.30 a.in.) SYDNEY, Sept. 12. Admiral King-Hall, responding for the Empire at the Chamber of Commerce banquet, said: “I am a staunch supporter of the Commonwealth naval policy. It is the only practical thing. It was that or nothing. It is a great fallacy to suppose tho initiation of an Australian navy will woalcon and in time dissolve tho connection with Britain of. one of tho most vigorous of her sons. Not so; it will have the reverse effect, if the Empire rulers have only ordinary wisdom and conunonsensc. It is inconceivable that the Australian navy division of the Imperial fleet would lie in their ports or only cruise on the coasts of Australia if the Empire is at war, as some foolish writers have remarked. Where the danger is there will be found the Australian navy flying tho same White Ensign as was flown on Nelson's ships, manned by the same breed that won' that victory.” (Cheers.)
