WHEREAS certain places' situated in Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay Health Districts are, or are supposed to be, infected with a dangerous injections disease, to wit Small-pox, and whereas the said disease is specially prevalent amongst the Maoris and Half-caste Maoris residing in the said districts, now, therefore, I, Thomas Harcourt Ambrose Valintine, Chief Health Officer under the Public Health Act, 1908, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by Section 18 of the said Act, and acting under the authority of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, do hereby until further notice forbid Maoris or Halfcaste Maoris to bo brought by moans of the Now Zealand Government Railways from any place situated within the Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to any other place situated within any of the said districts or from any place situated in the said Auckland. Wellington, or Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to aiiy other place in Now Zealand unless such Maori or Half-caste Maori produces a certificate under the hand of an officer of the Public Health Department or under the hand of a Public Vaccinator authorising him or her to travel upon the said railways. IN view of the existence of Small-pox in Sydney and of cases of suspected Small-pox in the North Island of New Zealand, the Department of Public Health urges every person to take advantage of the protection afforded by vaccination. Vaccination is performed free of charge to the public by the Public Vaccinators, who in the Taranaki Hospital District arc: 1 t O £ 1 & Owing to an impression existing amongst some people that arm to arm vaccination is still practised, the Department assures the public that such is prohibited by law in _this Dominion and that only pure calf lyirfph is used.
