RELIGIOUS MANIAC.
CHARGED WITH, MURDER. BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH,—COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, July 15. Drysdale has been committed for trial for wilfully murdering Miss Day. He told the police that ho bought a revolver to shoot Miss Day and himself. Asked why, ho replied: “For Jesus Christ’s sake.” No motive was disclosed. A cablegram from Sydney, dated Juno 1, said:—A remarkable tragedy occurred at North Sydney. A young man, Drysdalo by name, shot a friend, Miss Day, dead, and then seriously injured himself. Drysdale, wiio, it is believed, is suffering from religious mania, made a rambling statement at the hospital. He stated that he had looked up to heaven, and something told him that ho must taiko his life. He went inside and did the shooting. He added that the Bible referred to a new life hereafter. Ho wanted to go there with Miss Day. The crime was without motive. Miss Day, who was 40 years of ago, had lived with tho Drysdales for years, and w’as treated as one of tho family. She was on the best of terms with her siayor, who a year ago attempted suicide. Since then ho has devoted almost his whole time to tho study of religious questions. Ho diclared tho crime was tho will of God. Drysdalo’s condition is ■ : rious.
