INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) July 14.—About 2 a.m. this morning a fire was discovered in the house occupied by Mr. Scally (borough foreman). It .appears that a friend who was staying in the house at the time, awoke and found his room full of smoke, and saw a bright light outside his door. He says that ho thought at first that “Mick” (Mr. Scally) had got up early and was getting the breakfast ready. However, ho soon saw his mistake, and hastened to give the alarm. Tiro brigade was quickly on the scone after the ringing of the firebell, and, a good pressure of water being available, soon had the fire under. The house is very badly damaged, and Mr. Scally and family have very little more saved than what they stand up in. The strenuous practices -which the brigade have been having for months past enabled them to handle last night’s blaze quickly and well. 'The Inglewood Rifle Club is coming on very nicely indeed now. Some of the new members are making promise of becoming real good shots. I believe that the cadets are to begin to learn to shoot some day soon. They have got several eases of ammunition, and all they want now is rifles, which will be sure to come along some day.
