RIPA ISLAND DETENUES. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. It is stated that the lads at the military detention camp on Ripa Island have declined to drill. Several have started hunger striking. The Peace Council telegraphed to Minister of Defence and informed him that the hoys on Ripa Island had been in close confinement for insubordination, and on short rations. This punishment was illegal, as the Act provided for a further period of detention only. The lonncil asked by whose authority the Ant was overridden.
