Mr. Chapman Taylor, of Wellington, is staying at Sarnia Hons©. Mr. W. H. Porham’s friends hero will regret to learn that since he went to Russell he has been on the, sick list—a nervous breakdown, nothing very serious but sufficient to enforce a long rest. At St. Mary’s Church, on Tuesday, tho marriage took place of Miss Elisabeth May Connott, daughter of Mrs. S. 15. Counett, Belt Hoad, to Mr. L. H. Peppered, of the local Post and Telegraph Office. A Hastings telegram states that Sir William Bussell has been confined to his bed for some days through a slight breakdown in health, and was in much tho same condition this morning. His illness is not of a serious nature. Mr. E. Leo, of Messrs. Archibald Clark's Napier warehouse, has arrived to take charge of tho local office during Mr. J. D. Solo’s illness. Mr. S. Okoy, of tho New Plymouth branch, loft tin’s morning on temporary transfer to Napier. Tho death is announced' at Aix-Ie-Bains of M. Henri Bochefort, at tire ago of 83. M. Bochefort, who was a Marquis, though he did not use the title, was a well known French journalist and politician. In 1868 he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for his attacks on the imperial family in Ids paper, La Lanterno. He escaped',’ .however, to Brussels, and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1869. Ho was again put in prison for attacks on Prince Pierre Napoleon, but was released by the mob when the Republic was proclaimed in 1870. For attacks on the Government he was transported to New Caledonia under a life , sentence in 1871, but escaped in 1874. On returning to France six years later, he continued his attacks on all 'governments in turn. He supported General Boulanger, and lud to remain out of France for some years. On his return ho violently assailed Dreyfus and his supporters. M. Bochofort’s life was thus full of excitement, as- he seems hardly to have been capable of putting pen to paper without breaking tho law of libel.
