LOAN AND MERCANTILE. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, July 1. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has declared an interim dividend of five per centum on preference stock. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Messrs. E. Griffiths and Co. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs. Mills and Sparrow, dated London, May 23, 1913: ■ BUTTER. Trade continues on the quiet side, but there is an undertone of strength with all fine grades, and prices do not look like coming any easier. We are getting very cold weather for the time of year, and it is seriously retarding tlie'make, which a short time ago gave every promise of being prolific. Today wc should estimate that English and Irish, butter was lo per cent, to 20 per cent, less iu supply than at the same time last year. Australian.—l hero is very little doing. and all choice parcels sell as they arrive, particularly with salted, which is in short supply. Stocks on Hand are not heavy, the bulk of them consisting of lower grades, which at this season of tho year aro very'difficult to sell. Non- Zealand.—Butter per s.s. Ruahiue have arrived iu good order, selling freely at good prices, iu comparison, with all other descriptions. Colonial arrivals are;—27s boxes per s..s, Mongolia, 8,'400 boxes per s.s. Ruahine. ■ Siberian.—Prices 'are a little r riper, and owing to tho holidays iu Russia and Siberia, the quantities now arriving arc small; occasionally an advance is made over last week’s quotation. ' French.—This description is being pushed, but is not showing particularly good value at the moment. Prices will' no doubt come a little easier. CHEESE) The general market is quite" firm, and recent accumulations have been well cleared. Canadian,—The new season has now opened, and there are fair offerings. Values have improved considerably during the week, and to-day c.i.f. quotations aro 58s, 595. New Zealand.—. The drop in coloured last week of Is per cwt., anti the ad- 1 vance iu white to a like extent, had the effect of diverting a good deal tf attention to tho former, and as it is the best value offering, tho backward stocks have been cleared up and the market is in a much healthier condition. This week we can report an advance of fully Is per cwt. in coloured, but white is'a little easier, as 60s was found to be a , bit too high. to clear the goods. It does not look like cheap cheese this summer.
