TAHORA.

(Prom, a correspondent.) June 23.—An unusual spell of fine frosty weather has been experienced here this mid-winter. Gloomy clouds have covered .the sky for the last few days, but as yet little rain has fallen. The roads are in a much better state this winter, excepting the length between Kohuratahi and Tahora, which is still carrying much of the Public Works’ traffic. Some of the school children and parents journed out to see the Dreadnought last Tuesday, but were somewhat disappointed at not being able to board the warship; however, to some of the children it was a novel experiTlio Tahora Rifle Club’s ball was a great success, but owing to the prevalence of “Dreadnought” colds many fair patronesses were unable to be present. Mr. Grayling has finished the first bridge across the Tangarnkau River and intends to straightway start the second bridge. The railway construction works are being more rapidly pushed ahead at present, and the rtain rails are laid almost to the mouth of the tunnel on the Qnrimoana end. It is rumoured that the Public Works Department has definitely fixed upon the Rakahu route for the railway line to traverse and thus avoid the difficult construction needed along the Tanmirakau Gorge route. ° It fs hoped that among. the new ,7.P.’s appointed, one will be for Takora.
