DOMINION TELEGRAMS.

LOCAL BODIES’ SUPERANNUATION. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. The Mayor, Mr. Holland, stated today that the matter of a superannuation scheme for employees of local bodies camo up at the meeting of the executive committee of the municipal conference. It was felt that any scheme to be a success must bp a national scheme, otherwise there would be great difficulty in dealing with tho case of an employee transferring from tho service of one local body to another. '.Vith a national scheme, however, contribution would go on just tho same, no matter what local body an employee might join. The proposal was brought before the Minister, the Hon. J. Alien, who requested the executive to appoint a committe to discuss the matter with him, with a view to seeing whether it would not be possible to make a notional endowment scheme available for tho superannuation of local bodies’ employees. Tho committee was accordingly appointed to wait on the Minister. Tho Mayor added that tho delegates present at tho meeting all thought that if the national fund could bo made available that would bo a solution of „ the difficulty. CHRISTCHURCH BURGLARIES. GARNISHEEING WAGES. CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. Tho Canterbury Trades and Labour Council has received the following letter from the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence: —“In reply to your letter on tho subject of the garnisheeing of wages, addressed to the Hon. tho Prime Minister, I regret that you should consider this method of dealing with certain offences against the Defence Act as harsh. It must be borne in mind that tho law has to be enforced, and that the method of doing so rests with the magistrates, with whoso jurisdiction I am unable to interfere. Garnisheeing of wages is, however, I consider, a less rigorous course than detention in military custody in case of non-payment of fines.” NAPIER’S TRAMS. NAPIER, June 28.
