A MODEL SUBURB.

NEWCASTLE, April 25. Newcastle is to have a model suburb. The Australian Agricultural Company has set apart 250 acres of land south of the Honeysuckle railway station for that purpose. The streets are to be 100 ft. wide, witli one. exception, where an avenue will bo 130 ft. wide. The plans, which were exhibited to-day to a number of Newcastle business men at the company’s ollice, shows that there are to bo three avenues and about 15 streets. The allotments will be of a targe size. Gordon Avenue, which will be over a milo in length, is to have a double row of trees from end to end. A marked feature in Stewart Avenue will be a central square to consist of an oblong reserve divided into four parts, with a bandstand in the centre, and a semicircular plot at each end to bo planted with shrubs - and flowers. Space has also been provided for a fountain and a statue. Surrounding this reserve provision has bean made for shops and public buildings. The third avenue is what is known in America as a parkway Avenue. Other features of the subdivision will lie a uniform setting back of the houses from the frontage line at fjhe junction of tho avenue. The sharp corners have, been, sot apart for the purpose of making small grassy plots. The park which was recently given by the company to tho council adjoins tho model suburb'.
