NORFOLK ISLAND.

ACTION BY NEW GOVERNOR. By Electric Telegraph-—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 14. Air. William Houston, C.Ai.G., Deputy-Administrator of Norfolk Island, has resigned. Tho reason is not stated, hut it is believed/that ho clashed on a matter of principle with tho Administrator (Sir Gerald Strickland). (Received April 15, 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY April 15. It is stated that a complete reorganisation of tho staff at Norfolk Island is intended. It is understood that Sir Gerald Strickland looks upon the island as a distinct Crown Colony, not sharing the view that he is administrator by reason of bis being Governor of Now South Wales, but that ho is solely responsible to the Colonial Office, and that ho does not act with tho advice of the New South Wales Executive Council. Ono reason advanced for the changes is the desire to curtail expenditure on the administration of tho island.
