OAKURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) March 19.—Tim young men of tlie district enlivened the village by a dance on Thursday night, the Cth inst. There was a fair gathering, in the hall. Mr K. .Harnett supplied the music in his usual style, Mr. IT. Williams, as M.C., kept tlie dancers moving, and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. There is talk of a meeting to he called of all interested in the hall shortly, to improve things about it, as it is getting to look a little dilapidated and requires snme repairs.
Our school mis closed on Monday, the mistress’s brother being very ill of blood-poisoning in Stratford, and she was called away to see him. The weather hero lately has been very much against saving the late crops. Some crops down, this way have been one for weeks. There have been one nr two days’ line weather, then a little ram before the oats were quite fit to ta. e in.
_TTm niilk is going down slowly. Though they have made more butter tl an usual this year, they seem to be going down in niilk earlier.
The school inspector, Air. Jiailantyne, paid a visit to the school on Thursday, the Kith, and Alin Whetter to Korn, and on Friday visited Tataraimaka, while .Mr. ‘liailantyne and Mr. Adlam wont up to tin> Carrington Road about a school. The school wars closed for measles.
