(From Our Own Correspondent.)

March 18. —Tho settlers’ picnic at Kohuratahi was tlie most important event for the past week. For seven rears the picnic hud been favoured by fine weather, ami this last one was tho first wet day experienced. Notwithstanding that fact there was a record muster, and the'committee is to bo congratulated on the way in which tho affair was conducted. Everyone was welcome, and everything was free. The ladies and children had a great time of it, and many returned home carrying, good prizes. Messrs. Masters, Malone, Cato and Porter were some of the principal representatives of Stratford, and Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P., was also present. To-day Mr. E. 1 Hoddor, the wellknown builder, was married to Miss Hodder, eldest daughter of Mr. Hodder, of Kohuratahi. I much regret to mention that Mrs. Dean, of Whanga, went to New Plymouth to undergo a serious operation. It is hoped that she will return homo in the best, of health. Mr. D. Dixon, who has just disposed of his property at the Kohuratahi, will leave this district fot Canterbury.

Miss E. M'Meekan left Whanga last Saturday for Wellington, where she intends to take special lessons In highclass dressmaking. ,
