OKOKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) March 19.—The weather has been a bit damp in here lately, but less than three inches of rain have fallen so far this month. It is surprising how quickly the mud road suiters alter n week’s showery weather at this time of year The rain has been exceptionally warm, ami the turnips ace looking splendid. There is also an abundance of grass, and people in Taranaki should be thankful for the splendid season they have had, especially so seeing that other places arc badly in need of water. What has become of the noxious weeds inspector? He certainly doesn't trouble us in here, although I understand a complaint has been made to him The ragwort i.s allowed to bloom at its own sweet will, am! it i.s certainly disheartening to those who try to keen the pest down. Some years ago the.e was, a great cry out about this weed, and we wore told of some hundreds of acres of land entirely given up to it. It would be interesting to know if this land is in the same condition, as we certainly don’t hear so mud’ about it now, and I understood then that it was going to ruin New Zealand in 'the course of a few years. There i.s not much of it in here yet, ami it is a weed that is easily eradicated in its early stages, ami it is a pity that the settlers cannot be persuaded to tackle it before it gets serious and without the aid of the inspector. People seem to have a great aversion to inspectors coming round and ordering them to do things.
