STRATFORD.
(From Our Resident Agent.)
March 21.—The weather for the fast dav of the holidays has been absolutely perfect, the more remarkable as it coincided with the autumnal equinox, usually bringing ructions in matter* meteorological. There was a fairly good attendance at an open-air church service organised by the Cbprch of England Men’s Society. The Rev. Mr. Butler gave an impressive address, and, assisted by some instrumentalists, the singing went well. Friendly societies were strongly represented. It may bo taken for ■ granted that on such a beautiful day the bowling green, tennis courts, and croquet lawns were not deserted. The Eltlmm Bowling Club sent no live rinks, and a good contest resulted, Stratford coming out on top with a margin of twelve points. Onr County Council is taking time to consider the request to contribute £7O to tile Taranaki court at the Auckland Exhibition, not being convinced that the interests of tire primary producers will be' served. One thing is certain, that if,the matter is not worth anything to Taranaki’s primary industries it is not wortli anything to Taranaki at all. for wc hare practically nothing but the primary industries.
