RIFLE SHOOTING.

STRATFORD GUN CLUB. The Stratford Gnu Club held a match on the racecourse, Stratford, on Wednesday afternoon for a Boswell 215guinea gun, imported specially .from England. The climatic conditions were all that could be desired. There were forty entries, including most of the prominent trap shots of the province, and thero was some very fair shooting, though somo of the backmarkers found tho handicaps rather heavy. The arrangements wore admirably carried out by tho secretary (Mr. G. D. Hunter). Mr. T. Kirkwood officiated as referee, and performed his duties in a thoroughly satisfactory manner, Mr. C. E. Soabright rendered valuable service at tho marking board, and Mr, F. Collins’ manipulation of tho trap could not have been improved upon. Mr. Hunter was t)io winner of tho gun, and Marsh, who camo second, secures a cash prize of £5, Kirkwood 3rd £2, Harris 4th £2, and Free Oth £l. ■ Tho scores wore as fallows: — Hunter (Stratford), 17 yds 10 Marsh (Te Rnti), 10 yds. 11 Kirkwood (Stratford), 15 yds 13 G. A couple of sweepstakes were tired. Whittle and Hunter, with eight points each, divided first and second money, Cl 12s 6d, in tho first, and R. Knuckey was third with live points, winning 7s 6d. Lineham won the other sweepstake, Campbell and Hollard being «POn Saturday morning tho New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club will firo a match against the Patca Club. Shooting will start at 7.30 a.m. in order to allow tho Futon men to return by tho mid-day train, Tho ranges will be 300, 500 and 600 yards, 7 shots at each range. The next championship series of matches of tho Now Plymouth Defence Rifle Club will take place on Thursday and Saturday, March 27 and 29, tho ranges being 600 and 700 yards. Shooting in practice at the 1000 yards range yesterday, Rifleman Grover made a ten shot possible, his sighter also being a "bull.”
