A request was received from the Seaside Improvement Committee for monetary. help towards their fund for the picnic at Moturoa on New Year’s Day: They stated that on account of the League having obtained subscriptions , from townspeople for purposes- akin to the Seaside Committee-s, tho latter did not feel justified this yean in solicitihg public subscriptions: as heretofore. It was pointed out that for the Inst four years: the committeq had run,, the picnic solely for the purpose qf bringing the coiyitry people into New-Ply mouth, and so advertising the town, aiidfinancial help from the League would help it to continue a. work, which bad' already been the moans* of popularising the. seaside and establishing a friendly feeling between fthe: town ml r-nntry. :, : - \ A discussion followed on this, as to whether it would oo actvjsobta 'tha t all: the small bodies which: arc working to the some end should bo amalgamated. Tho Chairman submitted-thp scale or charges for vehicles and motor cars plying for hire between the town, and.- the .Mountain House. The scale had. been, drawn up by the owners as the result of the.'joint ■■■representations, of representatives of the League and the Mountiiin House Committee. ■ The. tariff together with particulars-of the routes of the attractions of tho district, will bo printed , and placed in tho -local hotels, bqardiiig-liousca, and public places. It was considered by many or the members that the charge, of Is nor head tollf- upon visitors to, tho Mountain House was, an unwise move, and",a good deal of discussion arose on tho point. ,The further: consideration of the matter :was deferred till the next mooting. Mr. Snowball reported, t’qat there had been a brisk demand for the, illustrated, folders the League had had printed. Ho had also been kept very busy, replying to inquiries, by letter and otherwise, and Vad rcceiVod' many congratulations on the-work.: of the League, in respect to the folder, more particularly to the 'literary merit of- the work, which: was. mainly duo to the Rev. J. W. Burton. The committee in charge, of this department was empowered- to- have, further supplies printed if necessary. APPOINTMENT OB' SECRETARY. Several applications for the. position of secretary were received, that-pf Mr. : A. L. Humphries being accepted, in. place of Mr: A. 'Snowball, who has resigned. The office of the League will be removed- from .its present site, in, Brougham Street to Messrs. and Stocker'S premises in Currie Street, ft was decided to erect finger-posts for the guidance of. strangers, to the secretary’s office, and.th.at a ropmr be P r br vided if or. the convenience of 1 visitors. , Mr; C. H. Weston was thanked for his offer, on behalf of. the owner, to relieve tile League of its obligations in regard to the lease, of the present office. ■■ ■■' , The retiring secretary, Air. A. snowball, was heartily , thanked for his services in the initial work oL the formation of the League and for the manner in which ho had carried; out, the, hard, work which the inauguration of such a scheme. entailed. It was decided-to fittingly recognise his "services. — Snowball, in, acknowledging the. compliment, .referred to the help which members of the committee had rendered.
