NEW SOUTH IVALES TEACHERS’ TEAM. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. The New 1 South Wales Teachers’ cricket team arrived from Sydney today. The personnel of the team is as follows: McMullen (Biinvood), ,0. Smith, O’Neill, Sattlerand, Schrader (Central Cumberland), Freeman (Glebe), Myers (Balmain), Dunn (Petersham), Barnes (IVoolongong), Morris (Broken Hill), Rose (Colburn), Moore (Crookwell), Walsh and Rogers. SOUTH MELBOURNE v. IVAIRA- , RAPA. Tho South Melbourne cricketers commenced their New Zealand tour with a match against Wairarapa today. The weather was fine and the pitch in good order. Wairarapa was first to tho wickets, and were dismissed for 67. The only scorers to reach double figures were Collins 20, Congdon 12,' and’ Jqrdau 10., ' South-Melbourne had lost eight .wickets for 1217 when stumps -were drawn. The chief scorers were; Sykes 48, Scott 37,'Deas 35, and Kyle 30 (not out). The match will he continued to-morrow.' ’SOUTH TARANAKI v, WANGANUI. WANGANUI, Dec. 18. A representative match—the first of a series for the Hawke Cup—commenced hero to-day in fine weather. The teams were South Taranaki and Wanganui. The former batted first on a perfect wicket, and were quickly disposed of for 26. E. Holland and Bernau were unplayable, tho former se.curing five wickets for fourteen runs, ■ and Bernau four for seven. Wanganui I occupied tho wickets for 190 minutes, during which time they compiled 453 runs. ' Orton contributed an admirable 147, batting superbly with strokes all round the wicket. The other principal scorers, were: Bathgate 66, Butterworth 47, Furrie 37, Bernau 35, Holland 23, Howard 18, Tilyard 15, Burrett 16 (not out), and Miirchie 16. Only one batsman failed to reach double figures. The 'match will be concluded to-morrow.
