LOVE MESSAGES BY WIRELESS.
A; report made by Captain Williams, commending the Government'. torpedo; station, at Newport, Rhode Island, and' who has supervision of the .wireless plant at that post, has had the, effect of causing the; Government'.to, .take immediate action against interference by amateurs ami others with wireless: communications 1 along the coast. It will be remembered that ; many of the false messages alleged ,to : have come from the vessels which went to the rescue of ,the Titanic were ascribed to the interference of ■' amateur, wireless operators, and this interference reached a, climax during the recent naval , manoeuvres off the Massachusetts coast. Official business between the Government stations and the yesasels was greatly retarded s by a large number of trivial messsagos sent by friends and sweethearts of the sailors through amateur plants. Captain Williams has incorporated many of the intercepted love messages in his report, which has boon placed' before' Congress. ■■ ,\ ' * One of the most ardent messages intercepted was from "Sweetheart Maggie to darling Jack,” ,in which Jack was implored to come to Boston as soon as „he could, because Maggie’s lieart was "just melting away”: for him, and he hadn’t kissed Tier for so long “that her lips were dry.” The Secretary of Commerce and Labour has been given authority over all wireless stations, and all of them must procure licenses from 1 the department, and all operators must also get licenses. This order is intended to include amateurs, but nothing further call bo done until Congress moves, in the matter, as it will do shortly. f ;
