MAYORAL ELECTION.
Sir,—l .would like to ask the electors of New Plymouth the following question : Do they approve of the Mayor’s, action in organising a boycott againstf St. Aubyn simply because they did not see eye to eye with him on .the Greater New Plymouth scheme? I myself think they would, have been wise to have joined tho borough, 1 and am convinced! they would have done so if someone bad not bungled over the notice re poll. If men like the present Mayor are allowed to retain office, then good-bye to British fair play (on which we pride ourselves), because it is quite possible that he would apply the boycott to those electors who consider their support should go to Mr. Medley. The ill-advised motions passed by the , borough Council on the Mayor’s initiative against St. Aubyn electors are stamped with ’ vindictiveness and pique. Fellow-ratepayers, do not elect a man of such dangerous temperament to the, highest and most honourable position in' your power to bestow, namely, Chief Magistrate. In. Mr. Medley (if elected) we should have a level-headed man at the helm. All the talk about the present Mayor having such a grip of borough matters is all fudge. I think some of the councillors could open your eyes on that matter. The Mayor must at all times be advised by the engineers and excellent town clerk—otherwise, why keep them in office? —I am,- etc., LOVER OF BRITISH FAIR PLAY.
