BOROUGH v. COUNTY COUNCIL. Easy ivin’fur the city FATHERS. The above match was continued on Thursday afternoon, belore a fair sprinkling of spectators. The weather was on this occasion in striking contrast to that of the first day s piay. The result was an easy wm for the Borough by an innings and 17 runs. It is only fair, however, to say that they were assisted by some younger men, who, by no stretch oi imagination, could be called City Fathers. Continuing their innings, J. R. Hill and J. Brown, the not outs, ivero soon disposed of, and this seemed to start a rot which went right through the team, for tho last eight wickets only produced 12 rums. Following on they did much better, hitting up 22 iu good stvle, apd M’Allum showed that ho still could wield the willow. One of his hits was cunningly placed in the long grass, not far from the wicket, and’ five were run for it before tho ball was found. The side were, however, all out, while still 17 runs behind their opponents’ single innings score. To play out time tho Borough batsmen had another turn at the crease, losing eight wickets for 28. J. T. Mannix kept, wicket in good style, and M'Allum on the other side also showed good form behind the sticks. Ben Tippins and J. Clarke looked like making a good stand for the eighth wicket, the former proving too wary to be caught by M. Hopson’s googlics, which had puzzled some of the previous batsmen. Ben stayed at borne and pulled them in in very correct style, till an unfortunate misunderstanding with the chairman of the Electric Bight Committee brought about Ills downfall.
