HOSPITAL BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING. Present Mr. F. C. J. Bellringer (chairman) and Messrs. E. Maxwell, W. Outfield, M. J. M'Reynolde, J. R. Hill, J. Brown, A. H. Halcombc, I). H. M'Donald, D. M’Allum and G. V. Tate. Dr. Frengley, District Health Officer, also attended, on behalf of Dr. Valintine. MEDICAL OFFICER’S REPORT. Dr. E. A. Walker reported that during the month of March, 32 patients had been admitted to the hospital, 30 were discharged, and 4 died, and that 41 patients remained in the institution, Nineteen operations had been performed. The month had been a busy one owing to the Isolation block remaining full, while five patients were under treatment in the annex. During tho year 240 operations were performed.

‘ OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. The matron, Mrs. Bayly, reported that during the month of March everything had been working very satisfactorily. Supplies had been good, and the discipline well maintained. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The inspector, Mr. A. H. Kendall, reported that during the past month five cases of scarlet fever occurred in Now Plymouth, and one case of typhoid fever. One case of hydatids from an outside district had been notified, and treated in New Plymouth. There had been one death from tuberculosis, and in this case he had the whole of the bedding, clothing, and carpet from the patient’s room burned in the hospital destructor, and the room had been disinfected and afterwards very thoroughly overhauled. One case of suspected scarlet fever had been notified at To Kiri. One case of tuberculosis from Okato had been treated in tho hospital, and one case of diphtheria occurred at Waitara. Four cases of scarlet fever, one of typhoid, and one of diphtheria were being treated at the patient’s own homes, some of these patients had not been able to obtain admission at the hospital owing to the want of accommodation. The .outbreak of scarlet fever in New Plymouth was peculiar, as there was no apparent connection between any of the case-s, which had in most instances nothing in common, the parties being unknown to each other. The milk supply was almost as various as the cases. All possible disinfection and enquiry had been carried out and made. Tho board then adjourned for lunch.
