THE PRISONERS’ STRIKE.

NO FURTHER INFORMATION. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. There were no fresh developments in regard to the “strike” of prisoners in Lyttelton gaol to-day. A reporter called at the gaol this morning and was informed by the gaoler (Mr. H. M‘Murray) that everything was quiet. Their breakfast was served! to them in their cells, and they would be kept lockqd up in the meantime. No work is being . done in the gaol shops, at the municipal quarry, or on tho roads. Dr. Hay, inspector of prisons, arrived from Wellington by the Maori this morning, and went to Christchurch on departmental business. He returned to Lyttelton by the 10.55 a.m. train, accompanied by the Rev. J. Kayll, to make inquiries into the circumstances connected with yesterday’s trouble. Mr. J. Garrard, one of the visiting justices, also conferred with Dr. Hay at the gaol. Dr. Hay held an inquiry to-day in camera. No information was divulged as to what happened. The inquiry will be resumed to-morrow. The men »re being kept locked up in the meantime.
