WHITELEY SUNDAY SCHOOL

ANNIVERSARY AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION.

The Sunday School anniversary services. in connection with tue Whitcley Methodist Church were continued on Monday evening with the customary tea meeting, followed by a public meeting and a distribution of prizes gained during the past year. There was a large attendance of scholars parents and friends at the tea, which was served in Whiteley Hall, and at the subsequent meeting, held in the church, the Rev. J. Burton presided.

The annual report was presented by the secretary, Mr. C. W. Hooker, and stated that the number of scholars on the roll was 176, being a decrease of 6 compared with the previous year. The number of teachers on the roll was 22, this being a slight increase on the previous year. The number of scholars on the roll of the junior school was 76.

Mr. F. W. Okey, treasurer, presented the balance-sheet for the past year, showing that the income amounted to £44 11s 7d, and alter meeting an expenses and making grants to the Auckland Sunday School Union and tho Deaconess Fund, there was a balance of 19s 6d in hand. The collections on the previous day amounted to £l3 15s, and the proceeds from the tea held that evening amounted to £6 4s 6d. The balance-sheet of the junior school showed a balance of £6 11s od.

Mr. W. Ambury (superintendent) delivered a short address, and, referring to the report, pointed out that the difference in tho number of scholars on the roll was more than accounted for by the fact that two new Sunday schools had been opened during the year, one at Frankleigh Park and one at Vogeltown, and many of the children who had formerly attended tho parent school now attended these schools. The Frankleigh Park school had an attendance of between 30 and 40, and Vogeltown had 22. Mr. Ambury referred in appreciative terms to tho work that was being done by Sister Florence; one of the most pleasing features of which was that through her efforts the membership of tho Young Ladies’ Bible Class had increased from 13 to 26.

Mrs. Douglas made a few interesting remarks concerning the good work that was being carried on in the infant school.

Subsequently Mrs. Douglas presented the prizes" which had been gained during the year by the scholars of the infant school and tho chairman presented the prizes to the successful scholars in the senior school.

Daring the evening the children sang a number of their anniversary hymns and at the close, votes of thanks were accorded to the superintendent, Mr. Ambury, the teachers, and office bearers, and Mr. H. White for training the children in their singing.

It was announced that the anniversary services would be continued on Sunday nest. ,
