OUTBREAK IN WELLINGTON. FIRE BRIGADE OFFICER KILLED. Per Press Association. , WELLINGTON, April 14. Shortly after five o’clock this morning a fire, attended with fatal consequences, broke out in a carpenter’s shop in Ellers Lane, .off Willis Street. • labile the fire brigade were at Work' 'onjdfche fire a ladder came in contact wfEh a high tension electric wire. The third officer, W. R. M'Lean, who was ascending the ladder, caught hold of the ironwork and was instantly electrocuted. The contents were insured as follows:—Walling, hairdresser and tobacconist, £l5O in the Guardian Office, Gurney, basketmaker, £loo in. the Victorian Office; Miss Cooper, florist, £2OO in the Australian Alliance Office; and Manning, £4OO in the Commercial Union Office; the other tenants were uninsured.
