Holman, Minister for Lands, speaking at Toraora, outlining the Government’s policy, foreshadowed important railway developments. Tho Government was dissatisfied with tho methods of duplication under tho Chief Commissioner, and had decided to transfer the powers to a board consisting of tho Minister for Works and Chief Commissioner. They did not blame the Commissioner, who had too much to do. Laud settlement would be pushed ahead, and 000,000 acres of Crown lands would bo opened for settlement this month, and 1,250,000 acres before the end of the year. Altogether, 18,500,000 acres could bo made available. The Government intended to reintroduce the Members’ Salaries Increase Bill.
