BOWLING.

(Notes by “Kitty.’/)

The final match for the banner will take place at Stratford on 'Wednesday next, April 1", between Hawera and New Plymouth. Now Plymouth will be represented by the following rinks: H. Goldwater, Medley, Hall, A. K. Smart (sk.); Binnie, Penn, Bary, H. Smart (sk.); Fraser, Luscombe, A, Goldwater, S. Bundle (sk.). The team will leave by the 7.40 a.m. train. Bain prevented the completion of the Auckland Provincial Tournament on Tuesday, and several concluding rounds had to be postponed till Thursday. The singles championship was won by Parsons (Ponsonby), who defeated Rankin (Mount Eden), who has held the championship for several years, by 2fi to 6. ’ihe executives rinks competition was also completed, being won by a West End rink, being skipped by Langsford, who defeated Fiarty's Dcvoiiport rink by oh to 14 - . , ' , t Members of the New Plymouth Club were delighted to welcome A. D. Gray and J. V. Dingle among the Auckland howlers. The former has quite recovered his old skill, and looks also in the best of health. He is spending a few days here, but Dingle had to return home on Monday night. The inter-association match Auckland v. South Auckland, played on the Auckland Club’s green on Good Friday, was won by, tbe Auckland Association. The southern team was composed of rinks from the Hamilton, Whitiorn, Cambridge, Tc Kuiti, Knrangahnke, Waikino, and Paeroa Clubs. Two rounds wore played, each game being 25 heads, and the final scores were: Auckland 484, South Auckland 373,

The match between the Auckland visitors and Inglewood on Saturday last was one of the best.of the tour, and resulted in a draw, 73 nil. The visitors were delighted with the green, which was in splendid order,"and some excellent play was seen. Herbert Smart, who skipped a rink for Inglewood. was at the very top of his form, and quite smothered the opposing skip and third. Following are the scores; Ballantyne, Johnston, Pcrcival, H. Smart (sk.) 26; v. Eversleigb, Oulpan, Ledingham, Dingle (sk.) 12. W. Marshall, A. Marshall, A, Morton, Sutherland (sk.) 14; v. Littler, Wilson, Mewburn, Osmond (sk.) 18, G. Morton, Lightfoot, Spurdle, Wilson (sk.) 23; v. Ryrie, Carlaw jun., Coldicutt. Carlaw sen. (sk.) 14. Rolston, Goiler, Leslie, Allan (sk.) 10; v. Buttle, Ashton, M'Masters, A. D. Gray (sk.) 29. Totals: Inglewood 73, Auckland 73. An unfortunate misunderstanding occurred at Stratford with regard to the final banner, match. The regulations say that the final is to be played at Stratford. Nev Plymouth deputed a St* John’s bow-sr to Toss Hawera on their account for choice of day, Wednesday or Thursday. The choice foil to Hawera, who chose Wednesday, but New Plymouth was not notified until late on Tuesday afternoon, when it was found impossible to notify the players. Moreover, the weather looked very unpromising. In the meantime Stratford had been notified, presumably by Hawera, that the match was to be played there on Wednesday, and went to considerable trouble in making preparations. Of course the club who gave Stratford notice should have notified them that the match was off. but no doubt the Stratford Club will excuse the omission under tho circumstances.

That was an excellent idea of Presidents Carlnw and Goldwater to present a cup for annual competition between the Auckland and Now Plymouth Clubs, but most of those present in the latter's pavilion on Monday afternoon thought it a fairer thing to permit all members who wished to subscribe. The cup will stimulate interest in the annual matches, and,, it may bo hoped, have the effect of keeping them going indefinitely. These interchanges of visits are not only good for bowling and more enjoyable than tournaments, hut they, tend to bring the communities closer together and form and cement individual friendships. The weather on Thursday was perfect for bonds, and there was a good muster on the town green, where the following rink games were played: Humphries, Cock, Medley, A. K. Smart (sk.) 26; v, H, Goldwater, AV. Morey. S. Rundle, A, D. Gray (sk.) 17. Fraser, Watkins, Ewing, Hall (sk.) 24; v. Marks. T. Avery, Luscomhe. H. Smart (sk.) 21. Hooper, Mannix, Fookcs, C. Rundle (sk.) 35; v, Cattley, VT. Rundle, J. C. Morey, M'lvellar (sk.) 14. Rawlings. Wilson, Chancy, Penn (sk.) 22; v. M'Gahey, Lewis, Black, Tichbon (sk.) 16. Hurle, Johnson, Blundell, Broughton (sk.) 24; v. Binnie, J. Avery, Furlong, H. AVard (sk.) 18. The final of the New Plymouth Club’s handicap singles competition was played on Thursday afternoon between 'Binnie and C. T. Mills, and provided a splendid finish. Both started level. Binnie soon forged ahead, opening with a four and reaching 15 to Mills’ 4. Then the latter began to creep up and reached 17 to Binnie 18. In the next head Mills put on 2. making him 19 to 18. Binnie then followed with a 2—20 to 19 in his favour. Then Mills scored a single, and the game was ,20 all. In the last head Binnie lay with his third, and Mills played short and so lost the game. 1
