Davidson, Ltd., of London and Glasgow, under date, March 7, 1912: BUTTER. The market during the’ past week has been very irregular. Continental butters have been fairly steady, but Colonial butters have been very weak, and prices on this particular grade show a reduction of 2s to 4s per cwt. We have now had a week of the coal strike, and at the moment of writing there is no appearance of a settlement (being come to. Dealers all over tho country continue to buy very sparingly and absolutely refuse to stock more than actual requirements. Until a settlement takes place, we cannot possibly expect an improvement, either in the demand or in price. CONTINENTAL BUTTERS. The demand this week has been very quiet, merchants only purchasing very small quantities. Telegraphic advices yesterday from Copenhagen state that the market there ,is dull, and tho quotation to-day has been declared unchanged. Danish and Swedish. —The total arrivals of Danish this week show a decrease of 860 casks. There was a very slow niarket and considerable stocks have been left over unsold. We quote strictly choicest quality 134 s to 1355. Siberian. —Arrivals this week only total about 1,000 casks. The demand has ruled very quiet and prices are again somewhat easier, strictly ohoicsst new made butter being now obtainable at 122 s to 1245, with ordinary finest 120 s. Prices telegraphed from Siberia to-day show that there has been ,a further reduction, hut quotations aro still too high to warrant British importers buying.

COLONIAL BUTTERS. Australian.—The arrivals this week comprise the s.s. Orontes with 33,009 boxes, also the s.s. IVakool with 5,30/ boxes. AVe have experienced a very dull and irregular market in consequence of labour troubles throughout, the country. Prices /luring the week show a reduction of 2s to 4s per cwt., choicest quality of salted butter being now obtainable at 122 s to 1245, secondary butters are obtainable at 118 s to 120 s; saltless butters are in slightly better demand, more especially f° r something really fancy, for which 124 s to 126 s is readily obtained, secondary unsaltcd is more difficult to move, and prices for this grade arc somewhat irregular ranging from 120 s to 1225. New Zealand.—The demand for these have been particularly slow during the week, and agents in consequence have been forced to reduce prices, 10-day choicest quality is readily obtainable at 126 sto 1275. The s.s. Arawa with 50,000 boxes on board is due to dock in London to-day. AVe believe that goods ex this boat have been offered as low as 1255, IMPORTS TO THE UNITED KINGDOM. The total figures up to March 2 of this vear, and for the corresponding period of 1909, 1910, and 1911, are as follows: 1909, 790,958 cwts.; 1910, 781,945 cwts.; 1911, 885,499 cWls. ; 1912, 818,135 cwts. CHEESE. Canadian. —The demand is again somewhat quiet, but prices are being well maintained, choicest white and coloured 73s 6d to 755. New Zealand.—Better demand reported in our last continues, and prices are again a shade stiffer, choicest coloured being now quoted at 72s 6d, with choicest white 735. IMPORTS TO THE UNITED KINGDOM. The total figures up to March 2 of this year, and for the corresponding period of 1909, 1910, and 1911, are as follows; 1909, 285,710 cwts.; 1910, 292,250 cwts.; 1911, 299,667 cwts.; 1912, 298,844 cwts.
