ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE, Tho Empire Theatre was again crowded last evening, and many would-be patrons were unable to gain admission. Charles Reade’s novel in picture form, coupled with tho ability of Alfred Boothman as a master elocutionist, is the great attraction of the moment, and as to-night is tho last time this picture will he shown in New Plymouth, is safe to predict that the seating capacity at the Empire will again be fully taxed. At to-morrow’s matinee an entirely new programme will be presented, including the unique and wonderful Cine Roma pantomime “Pinocchio,” 4000 ft. in length, shown by special arrangements with the Greater J. D. Williams Amusements, Ltd. “Pinocchio” is the tale of a boy carved from wood. His strange and striking adventures will prove as interesting to the adults as it is pleasurable to the little ones. The whole subject is a striking feat in motion photography. ROYAL PICTURES. A splendid house assembled at the Theatre Royal last evening to witness the new programme. Many pictorial gems were presented, and some delightful music was provided by the Royal Orchestra. The same programme will again be on view to-night for the last time. West’s and the Royal Pictures’ in “The Great Moment,” to be shown in the Theatre Royal to-morrow at the Sweets Matinee and in the evening, have secured a most interesting subject. “The Great Moment” is wonderfully well acted by the talented company df actors engaged. The incidents are of every-day character, and deal with a woman’s intense love for her offspring, for whom she finally sacrifices her life. The incidents are depicted with power, and intensity that immediately appeal to the spectator. The bulk of the scenes are laid in Denmark, and have the advantage, of beautiful and picturesque scenery. The part of the heroine is taken by Miss Asta Neilson. The thread of the story is never lost, hut comes to a natural although unexpected conclusion in a mo?t thrilling fire scene. “EYERYWOMAN u Although Mr. J. C. -Williamson is sending a company of seventy people to take part in the big spectacular production of “Everywoman,” to be staged here on Monday, April 22, it is nevertheless necessary to augment the crowd in tho stupendous scene representing New Year’s Eve in New York, by engaging local talent, and these, which include ladies and gentlemen, also girls and boys aged from 12 to IS years, are notified to apply at the office of the Theatre Royal between the hours of 9.30 and 10.30 a.m. to-morrow (Saturday).
