Mr. Justice Cooper returned from a trip to England by the Moeraki on Wednesday. Mr. John Straucbon, Under-Secretary for Lands, has been appointed to be member of the Board of Land Purchases, iu place of Mr. Kensington, retired. At Kaponga on Thursday night a largely attended function’was held to bid farewell to the Rev. W. B. Scott, Methodist minister, on the eve of his removal to Aramoho. He was a prominent footballer and a member of the Taranaki Referees’ Association. The New Zealand Labour Party, at the conference in Wellington to-day, recorded the deep sense of loss sustained by workers in the death of Mr. Dacey, and extended sympathy to his relatives;; Speaking to the motion, Mr. Carey Said labour Ministers were killing themselves by over-work.—Press Association.

The marriage took place at Otamo Church on Thursday of Mr. A. V. Stohr and Miss Nellie Turnbull. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. J. Wilkinson. Miss Myra Stohr (sister of the bridegroom) was bridesmaid, and Mr. A. R. Standish acted as best man. Mr. and Mrs. Stohr subsequently left for Wanganui where the honeymoon is being spent.

Our Wellington correspondent telegraphs that Miss Mary Jones, daughter of Mr. Cecil Jones, manager of the Huddart, Parker Steamship Company, met with, a-serious accident on Wednesday night. Just as she was crossing Tinakori Road, after leaving the residence of Sir Joseph Ward, she was knock 3d down by a passing cyclist on to the tram rail. The cyclist stopped and telephoned for a doctor. Miss Jor-.es was unconscious when picked up, and it was an hour before those attending her discovered who she was. She was taken to a private hospital and attended by two doctors. On Thursday evening her condition had improved somewhat, but she had not regained consciousness.
