An official announcement was made to-day of the postponement, until next year, of the celebration in honour of the 1300th anniversary of Emperor Constantine’s victory over paganism. ’the plans now being prepared provide for festivities upon a much larger scale than originally intended, and for the erection of a magnificent temple outside Rome and on the site of Constantino’s great victory. ROME, March 27. With the opening of the Biblical Institute of the Catholic Church, the Vatican hopes to end permanently the questions regarding the authenticity of the Bible, and to establish the contention that modern science has not disproved many of its passages. . The magnificent palace in the Via Pilotta, which will be the home of tho institute, and which has been opened with impressive ceremonies, will collect. every available document bearing on tho authenticity of the Book of Books. The library is capable of accommodating 100,000 volumes, and will include the earliest papyrus documents and cuniforra inscriptions down to tlio originals of the writings of the Apostles. ST. PETERSBURG, -March 27. The medical authorities in St. Petersburg for the last twelve months have been investigating a remarkable case. It is that of a' Russian, One Moissejenko, who, since March of last year, has been simply a living corpse. He has been in this lethargic state ever since his arrest on a charge of train robbery and murder. When he learned that his mistress had betrayed him his fear of death became so intense that ho foil down unconscious, Tho movement of the man’s heart is barely discernible, and the doctors have been enabled to keep him alive only by administering food by moans of a tube. BERLIN, March 27. The accusation that the Social Democrats are not patriotic is brought against that body in a book which has just been published by Professor Julius Wolf, of the University of Breslau. Professor Wolf’s complaint against the Democrats is in effect that they are a lot of race “suiciders,” add have gone on strike against furnishing material for the German army. The Catholic Centreists, declares the professor, are providing the country with most of its future defenders, and figures are given to prove this statement.
