INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The benefit performance of folanthc on Friday evening was fairly well patronised, but evidently two nights is the limit to any performance in Inglewood, although amongst the audience there were many who had attended previously, so tho' fault, if any, was not with the production. There was very little difference in the performance, but there was a noticeable improvement in the lighting, which was good before, but Mr. Dutfill certainly surpassed his previous efforts on this occasion. I believe a fair sum will result in consequence of tho players’ exertions, which will help the Firo Brigade and Band Rotunda a little. A sudden death overtook an old Canterbury resident on Sunday morning at the. residence of Mr. J. Mynott of this town. Tho deceased gentleman, Mr. H. Hoy, was a brother of tho lato Mrs. YV. Jordan, who passed away some two years ago, and was one of the oarjy pioneers of Sydenham, Cdirißtclinrch, in the rough and ready days which are now nearly forgotten. On one occasion he walked from Dunedin to Christchurch, before any roatls or bridges were in being; his mate being drowned on the journey. He afterwards had charge of various ferries, and subsequently became a well-known teamster in Chr stclnirch, after which ho retired, and some six years ago came to Taranaki, living for a short time on the Lincoln Road.
