(From Our Own Correspondent.) The excitement caused by tho general election is now cooling down, and the district will soon resume its norma! condition. Many settlors in the district wore very sorry to find it necessary to record their votes against their late member, -Mr. Jennings, who has always done his best for ids electorate, hut received such scant support from the party he represented, that it was clearly seen that'as long ns the same party was in power tho wants of the district would meet with the same indifference, and the only way to mend matters was to cense supporting a Government which has treated Loth the settlers and Mr. Jennings in .such a slighting manner, and trust to a future Government paying a little more attention to tlu‘ wants of tho district. On Friday last -Mr. Harold nell was given a hearty send-off hy a large number of settlers and friends on the river. The entertainment was in the form of a social, and dancing was well kept up until early morning.
